We are living in interesting times where travel has become questionable for many of us. Some think it is still safe, some think it is very challenging and others simply choose to stay home and wait for better times. Although these choices are respected, sometimes we need to go to our next destination because we need to connect to our loved ones.
Whatever the case may be, there are safe ways to travel and stay healthy during the pandemic.
All we need is to follow a few guidelines:
Wash your hands regularly with soap or use hand sanitizer.
Experts recommend washing your hands for at least 20 seconds and wiping them with a paper towel. If there is no water around, make sure you carry a hand sanitizer which is at least 60% alcohol and use it as often as needed, especially after touching any surfaces.
Avoid touching your face.
Viruses often spread through droplets of saliva or mucus. When people cough or sneeze these droplets land on different surfaces which we may touch and then accidentally scratch our eyes and let the viruses enter our bodies through mucus membranes. So make sure to clean your hands and minimize their contact with your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Take your personal precautions.
Although airlines have announced that they have increased their cleaning standards, there’s no guarantee that every surface will be clean. So make sure you have some alcohol-based wipes to clean your seat, arm-rest, side-table, tv screen, window blind, and remote controls. You may also use wipes for any door handles, elevators, taxis and buses.
Clean air.
Most of the modern aircrafts have HEPA (High-Efficiency Particle Arrester), which filters 99.999% of dust and airborne impurities such as bacteria and viruses. This filtration system provides the highest possibility of clean cabin air. You may also want to consider asking for a window seat to limit interaction with aisle traffic.
Travel business if possible.
Business and priority class can give you some extra space and potentially less contact with other passengers.
Distance yourself from others.
Remember to follow social distancing measures whenever possible.
Stay hydrated.
Mucous membranes often dry out in the low humidity of an airplane, so you may want to consider carrying a moisturizing nasal spray to clean out your nostrils. Also drink more water for proper hydration of the whole body, which is essential for your well-being.
Check government travel advisories.
Make sure you stay up to date with all travel requirements and restrictions in place of your destination and return country. Have your test results ready for your travels.
And lastly, even though it may seem stressful in the airport, they are doing an exceptional job at keeping stress levels to a minimum and providing passengers with great service. Furthermore, since a lot of people are choosing to stay home and avoid travel, airports are looking much less crowded.
